You need this fly in your fly box! A wonderful Ghost Shrimp pattern that is striking in its design and elegant in its simplicity.

After attending a recent seminar by Dr. Aaron Adams I purchased his books (see below to order) and stumbled upon his Big Ugly fly. Dr. Adams wrote, "I came up with this pattern before a research trip to Andros, Bahamas. A guide on Andros, Phillip Rolle, who was helping with the research, took one look at the fly and proclaimed it the Big Ugly. But by the time the week was done, Phillip was using the fly too." - Fly Fisherman's Guide To Saltwater Prey (p. 60)

Medium yellow lead eyes, tan polar fiber (brown bars on tail), estaz gold, saddle hackle, and pink thread.

02/22/09 - Sebastian Fl
I fished this fly yesterday at the docks just south of Sebastian inlet and the winter trout just tore it up! Moving it slowly on the bottom with a quick strip between very slow strips and pauses triggered the sea trout to take the fly. I managed maybe ten trout, a few jacks, and even a very large lady fish on this fly. It was a great day on the water.

I plan on keeping this fly in my box along with the Borski Craft Fur Shrimp. Both complement each other very well. The Big Ugly allows you to work the bottom and has wonderful action because of the lead eyes. The Craft Fur Shrimp is lighter and works higher in the water column. Two fantastic shrimp patterns everyone should have in their fly box!
